You think that I'm some sort of nut
Now I just can't imagine what
Would make you think of such a thing
It's really quite bewildering

Of course, the bike up in the tree
Was pure eccentricity
But that is just a one time deal
It doesn't make me mad, I feel

It's true, I also learned 'tHe WoRd'
Such oddities are not unheard
That fact is not unique to me
If I am nuts, than so is E

Now it's a fact my 'quirky' ways
Include a hang up with toupees
Is that such an anomaly
To include in my poetry?

I must admit that I did start
The weed war; but you did your part
Don't look at me as if I'm queer
I'm not the only weedist here!

Okay, I guess posting in rhyme
Is done by me some of the time
That doesn't mean I've lost my mind
I'm simply bored, I think you'll find

Now that I read back through this list
Perhaps it's best that I desist
I think I'm building up a case
That just might leave me in disgrace

I know that you may be in doubt
And think my reasoning way out
I'd simply like to remind you
Of all the wacky things you do!

I'm going to form an orchestra
And it will bring me fame
The masses will know me by sight
And recognize my name

The instruments my group will play
Will surely be unique
It's not the ordinary 'blah'
To you, of which I speak

Someone, I think, will play the hams
And these, of course, will be
Accompanied by bacons and
The sausages, you see?

And this group would not be complete
If it did not have beans
Of course it must include pintos
And naturally, the greens

And cheeses will add compliment
Some mellow and some bright
The tones will be quite elegant
The yellow and the white

And JELL-Os will undoubtedly
Be needed for this rhyme
Strawberry, raspberry, cherry
Orange, lemon and lime

I'll put these all together, and
Sweet music you will hear
But wait, my plans have gone awry
And there's bad news, I fear

My mother just now noticed me
And told me 'Don't be rude'
'Remember we have guests tonight
Stop playing with your food.'
Sad

I went and got my zipper stuck
Now it won't close. What rotten luck!
This promises embarrassment
At least, that's my presentiment

I know that people all will stare
Just ogling my underwear
This day is sure to be a drag
I broke my stupid duffel bag
Embarrassed

I loved the ones at the top of the page. The last one was kind of cute, but too short.

Still enjoy watching these continue, though.

I like the second one even better than the first, I think. The third one is fun but not as good as the other two.

Good luck with 10!

Hey, *complains* stop talking about my shorts. Roll Eyes

Seriously, I have to do 'short' to even have a chance at ten. Naturally, it's a piece of cake to do ten bad poems, but I'm trying (and somewhat succeeding, it appears) to write good stuff. Wink

I certainly like the idea of the second one better. Wink

Okay, don't ask my why, but your reply made me laugh too. Laugh

Okay, thanks everyone. Again I won't make ten, but it was fun trying.

SOMEDAY I expect to reach ten, AND have most of them be at least decent. Smiley

And now the hard part is here...

Awaiting Lazy's unique response. Tongue

I think I'll take up the guitar
And naturally, become a star
I'll play in concerts all sold out
There really isn't any doubt

I'll be a real phenomenon
My songs astonish everyone
My fame before me will proceed
With seeming supersonic speed

I'll really pack the people in
They'll whoop and stomp and laugh and grin
I'll give them all their money's worth
I'll tour the whole planet Earth

There will be cheers of 'right on man!'
I'll be the best one in the land
My picking will leave them amazed
And certainly I'll be unfazed

Their adulation won't affect
My modesty, I do expect
Because, no matter what the crowd
I won't become boastful or proud

For even now humility
Makes this one fact quite clear to me
I don't expect this overnight
Tomorrow will be quite all right

All of the poems you have posted since I last visited this forum are great Bookworm Angelic Rolling on the Floor Laughing Jester Smiley!

325 is my favourite of all of these poems, although they're all pretty good, although 328 is somehow "weaker" than all of the other ones, but I don't quite know how in the first place... Undecided Huh  Kilroy Bookworm...

And oh yeah, before I forget, E made a great stab at trying to create a poem as well, and Joe's riffs on it were excellent too  Thumbs Up Bookworm Smiley.

All told, you are still successful in creating great and entertaining poems, Joe, and as long as you are, I will always support you in making them, even if you have to sometimes wait up to two weeks for my response to them in the first place Bookworm Angelic Rolling on the Floor Laughing Jester Roll Eyes Wink Smiley!

On an unrelated side-note, to end the post with, I still love these Alien Smilies, and I hope that they never go away Bookworm Angelic Rolling on the Floor Laughing Jester Kilroy Thumbs Up Roll Eyes Wink Smiley!

I'll take that! Much higher praise than I feel my poems are worth, but your sentiment was not wasted, Lazy.

I really appreciate such high thoughts on my poetry, and indirectly about me.

I am afraid that my comments on your comments about my poetry isn't as good as your praise, but, hey, what can I say?

Maybe I can thank you best by continuing to write 'great' poetry.

I may have said it before, but I really do appreciate feeling appreciated. Not sure who likes my poetry the best on here, but Lazy certainly isn't backward about voicing his opinion.

(I think watching Planes, Trains & Automobiles must have made me sappy...)

Hey, a little sap never hurt anyone. I wasn't going to write a poem today, but, I think Lazy put me in the mood. This won't be good, but, here goes nothing!

It never hurts to say you care
To people who for you are there
Those individuals in your life
A son or daughter, husband/wife

Or other friends that care for you
There in the good and bad times too
To help you through when you feel lost
Who just stand by at any cost

The fact is, you can count on them
I like to think of them as FRIEND
A rather pleasant term, I think
Now what do I do with this last part....  I'm too Lazy. Wink

You're all too good, you're all too kind
In fact, you all have lost your mind
If you enjoy my poetry
Well that's sure proof enough for me

It doesn't take a high IQ
To figure out what's wrong with you
You just don't need a brainy brain
To figure out you're all insane

You likers of my wacky verse
You're crazy, and can't get much worse
But then, I guess it's not so bad
To go through life a little mad

I wouldn't know, quite honestly
Quite what it's like to be crazy
I guess that I can just assume
You all live in a rubber room

This is not a new poem, but people who haven't seen it will probably appreciate it. Plus, now you can see where 'gazzo' comes from. Roll Eyes

Neglected Chore

(Or, I’m in hot water)

My father told me “clear the walk!”
As he went out the door
I called to him “Sure enough!”
And then I played some more

He’ll be gone the whole day
No sense in rushing it
Besides, I’m playing Gazzo
And I don’t want to quit

You see, you have to get this thing
Attached to this doohickey
And then this little heejazz…
Believe me, it’s real tricky!

Well, I was having so much fun
The time just flew away
And when I looked up at the clock
My face turned ashy gray!

There wasn’t time to clear the walk!
Now what was I to do?
My breathing came quite quickly
My face retained its ashen hue

But, after while I settled down
And I began to think
A smile washed away my frown
As I ran for the sink

While filling up a bucket
With water steaming hot
I reasoned this would clear the walk
In one nice easy shot

That water surely did the trick!
The snow melted real nice
(Little did I realize
That it would turn to ice)

I just got back to Gazzo
When I thought I heard a THUMP!!!
I looked outside in time to see
My dad flat on his rump

Even though I’m sure
He’s pleased I cleared away the snow
I think I better leave now
See you later, gotta go!!!

Now what was I to do?
My breathing came quite rapidly
My face retained its hue

But, after while I settled down
And I began to think
A great big smile replaced my frown
As I ran for the sink

While filling up a huge bucket
With water steaming hot
I reasoned this would clear the walk
In one nice easy shot

That water surely did the trick!
The snow melted real nice
But little did I realize
That it would turn to ice

I'd just gone back to play Gazzo
When I heard a loud THUMP!!!
I looked outside in time to see
My dad flat on his rump

Although I'm sure that he is pleased
I cleared off all that snow
I think that I'll be leaving
See you later. Gotta go!!!

Nice! I like the ending, I laughed.

My comment on the 'cleaning up' (for what little it is worth) is that the second one 'flows' better.
If that makes any sense.

But still, both nice. Smiley

Rachel says that my poems almost always have great endings, and even though this may make me sound egotistical, she's probably right. Wink

Yeah, that was the whole point of 'cleaning' it up. I thought it was a pretty good poem, but the meter was off in places. I don't know a lot about poems, but I think that now, even though the meter isn't strictly perfect, that the flow is good enough to be, well, good enough!

Most of it's in an eight six eight six, but there are a few sevens. Smiley

Glad you liked the poem, E.

Oh, I wrote the original November 2006, btw.

I don't remember having seen this in the past, but I could just have a bad memory.

Enjoyed it quite a bit! Nice work, Joe!

Well, it's old, but I don't remember if I've posted it before.

Not that important, I guess. It's here for ya'll to enjoy now, and if it was posted before, there's a good chance that it's somewhat buried!

Thanks, Jon. Glad you liked it.

You know, I've been thinking...

And I guess that this might be impossible, yet...

You all know how much I enjoy my surprise endings on poems. My poems aren't great, but the great endings oft times make my poems enjoyable.

I would LOVE to figure out a way to give a poem a surprise BEGINNING! Maybe that idea doesn't do anything for any of you, but it just seems great to me. Naturally, I figure it would be quite a feat. After all, the thing about the surprise endings is that you don't see them coming. Well, you can't see the ending until it gets there. However,  a surprise beginning would have to be well thought out. After all, a person reads the beginning right away.

I mean, what's so interesting about 'Once upon a time?'

Still--

The idea intrigues me. I guess I'd have to have something throughout the poem that would give the beginning a surprise.

AUUUUUUGGGHHH! Now this idea is going to nag at me, and I'm not even sure I can pull it off! Wink
