I haven't written poetry in such a long, long time
I'm half afraid my meter's bent, and I'm way out of rhyme
The subject matter is a flop; there's nothing to be said
Perhaps I shouldn't have got up, and just stayed there in bed

The grammar in this verse of mine is probably not great
Perhaps I shouldn't write at all, but now it is too late
I'm sorry for the ones of you who like my poems the best
I guess I should have warned you this one won't be a success

It even lacks that great ending that make my bad poems good
I guess I could abort it now, but don't know if I should
For Jon will want to read it all, although it is quite bad
'Cause poems that end without an end annoy the stalwart lad

This poem was not a complete loss, I guess I'm not too sore
Because, I got to use a word I've never used before
I wonder how many of you can guess this word with ease
I can't end this poem real good, so I'll end it as I please

(I should have deleted this one Tongue )

Uneven rhythm in a poem grates on my nerves. The cleaned up version is better. I have noticed that your latest poems aren't as uneven as their predecessors. Though sometimes the wacky meter seems to add to the charm, for reasons I can't explain. Stars

Isn't the beginning always a surprise? Unless maybe it has nothing to do with the title?

Yes, thank-you. I've definitely bettered my poetry, if not in ideas, at least in technique.

Since you took the time to respond, I figure that I should too. It's a bummer that my answer goes something like 'I don't know what to tell you,' because I'm a little confused! (Okay, a little more than my usual, common everyday confusion...)

But, knowing you, you very well could be right. *Wince* Wink

And for all I know, you may be right...

I would guess you are not, but I'm not sure.

Also, I'm not at all confident that I have never used the word 'grammar' in one of my poems.

Wow, I just went through pretty much all (if not all) of my poems saved on my computer.

I didn't find the work 'please' anywhere!

Jen just might be right, plus, I wonder if that points out my lack of manners... Blink

That is really funny! Of course you know I was just kidding, but it's hilarious that you really never used 'please' in a poem before! Rolling on the Floor Laughing

Unfortunately, 'classic' Joe isn't all that desirable. Sad

Don't take this personally, Jen, but I'm just having a bad day.

You could have said 'Joe is the nicest person in Michigan,' and I still would have found a way to make it sound bad. Sad

The mood I'm in is awful bad
It oscillates from there to sad
Sometimes I get a little joy
But then it's right back to annoy

I hope these feelings go away
These things inside that do dismay
Perhaps in time it will get better
These things that hold me like a fetter

The one bright ray of hope I see
Shines like a beacon there for me
When you are at an all time low
There is only one way to go

*sigh*

Lots of laughs

Since I am forever jumping into the middle of conversations on other websites and in real life, I will do so here as well. I like the poems.

I have read with my sight.
I like the poems. "I like," I said.
But now I must head off to bed.
Goodnight.

(Actually those rhyming and rhythm patterns irritate me, but I'm too tired to think of anything else.)

Jon wiggles his fingers at Silk.

You never know, it might be the right Silk.

Joe sounds like he needs a song:

Always look on the bright side of life  Whistling
Always look on the bright side of life  Whistling

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...  Whistling
Always look on the light side of life...  Whistling

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...  Whistling
Always look on the light side of life...  Whistling

From the ever-odd Monty Python.

Wow, thanks to all of you!

I appreciate you showing me that you ardently disagree with me, and in this case, it's a good thing!

I just went back and read my '362' poem, and I agree with you, E. It actually is written pretty good.

I agree that the subject matter is bad, but the poem is decent. I guess that shows me that my poetry isn't dead!

I'll try and get something GOOD up later today.

Glad you liked the poems, Silk. Hope you enjoy the forum.

If you enjoy it half as much as I have, then you will have enjoyed it immensely! Smiley

Oh, I wasn't going to do this (thank people individually), but, why not!

Thanks, Jen. My stoppage of self deprecation hasn't worked out too well. I guess the good thing is, it's never too late to be nice to myself!

I'm happy today, too, because I made a lemon pie with meringue and everything, and CH liked it very much.  Love

Well, I realize if I say what I want to say the "normal" way, that it will be repetitive of what I have said about Joe's poems already, so I'm going to try to do it in poem form, so please wish me good luck in that department, because I'm going to need it, folks Disbelief Smiley Afraid Smiley Smiley  Roll Eyes Wink Smiley...

Your most recent poems are great,
But then again, aren't they always?
And relax Joe, don't be irate
About what goes on in your life's hallways

Stuff like that happens all the time...
And I really wish that I could make it better
But unfortunately, I'm not that sublime
So all I can do is write this sympathetic letter!

Yes, this is the end of the poem
And it's really the best that I can do
If you can do better, then take the jeroboam
And I'll leave it up to you!

Well, I don't think this poem needs any more commentary to it, so that's all for now, folks Disbelief Smiley Afraid Smiley Smiley  Roll Eyes Wink Smiley!

Thanks.  Smiley

I'm enjoying the forum so far. I'll have fun with having somewhere to post my poems. Outside input is good!

Writing is fun,
But sometimes it's hard.
A poetical playwright
Is called a bard.

It might not be entirely accurate, but there's the whole poetical license thing...

Aj, and I, it seems are down
I guess we both can wear a frown
Or, maybe she will give a sigh
While, I, am leaning more toward 'cry'

I guess that you all didn't know
A full grown man should take on so
I guess that that is very true
But that's most likely what I'll do

Now I know that this poetry
Is not the usual stuff from me
It hasn't got its usual wit
I'm sorry; guess that I'll just quit

Perhaps some day on down the line
You'll get some poems that are quite fine
But that will be when I'm not blue
'Til then, it just sucks to be you

The letters in the alphabet are twenty-six in count
I've used some in this poem of mine, don't know just what amount
Perhaps, if I were interested, I'd count them up to see
But, I'm not quite that zany to do something that crazy

I know that I have done some things that really make you think
But that alone don't justify the service of a shrink
Perhaps one statement I'll retract, though it is rather small
'Cause just between the five of us, I'd say I've used them all
