I thought I’d be making a huge deal out of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, but on the day itself, it just didn’t feel right. I think everybody felt the same way. Even in the media, the buildup was huge, but on April 15th itself, the fanfare was pretty muted.

Maybe that’s because we all remembered that what we’re “celebrating” was a terrible disaster that cost 1517 lives.

It’s a fascinating story – compelling, and definitely exciting. But it’s nothing we should be cheering about.

Not much else to say about it. The Man With The Plan is back! Luthor, the Global Kennel Society Dog Show, and a $7.8-million-dollar lawsuit. You can’t go wrong.

Seriously, I’m so psyched to be kicking off 2012 with the 4th novel in the SWINDLE series. This is the book that completes Luthor’s incredible journey from the toughest, meanest attack Doberman on Long Island to the lofty heights of the top dog show on the planet. If I wasn’t a dog person before, I sure am now. I actually went to the legendary Westminster Kennel Club dog show to do research for this one!

I hope everybody enjoys SHOWOFF. I can’t wait to hear what readers think!

Happy New Year!

Sorry to disappear! I’ve been on the road all this past fall talking about TITANIC and THE MEDUSA PLOT. It’s been an exhausting season — and it isn’t over yet. I still have school visits in Ohio and Illinois. But now that it’s December, it’s time to start counting down to SHOWOFF — the latest book featuring The Man With The Plan and the Swindle team — which comes out in January. Luthor the Doberman is the star this time, in an adventure that takes him from disaster at the mall, and disgrace and misery at the town pound, all the way to the loftiest heights of the Global Kennel Society Dog Show.

Also a quick shout-out to my fellow Clue-heads that the second book in THE 39 CLUES: CAHILLS VS. VESPERS, A KING’S RANSOM by Jude Watson, hits the shelves next week.

Here’s an update on what you can expect in the future:

SHOWOFF: You probably already know that the SWINDLE series is going to continue. Finally, I can provide a few more details. SHOWOFF – the story of Luthor in the Global Kennel Society dog show -will be published in January.

UNGIFTED: In Fall 2012, I’ll be releasing my next book with HarperCollins (the publisher of POP). It’s about a regular kid who accidentally ends up in a super high-powered gifted academy.

The other big news is that all three Books of the TITANIC trilogy – UNSINKABLE, COLLISION COURSE, and SOS, are now available.

This series has been an amazing voyage of research and discovery for me – luckily one with a happier ending. I’ve been receiving letters and e-mails from TITANIC fans around the world, so I’m really excited to hear everyone’s reaction to Book 3: SOS. (Spoiler alert – the boat sinks.)

39 Clues fans have been champing at the bit for the second series to start, and the day is finally here. Tomorrow THE 39 CLUES: CAHILLS VS. VESPERS begins with my opening shot, BOOK 1: THE MEDUSA PLOT. And the all-new better-than-ever website premieres – check it out at www.the39clues.com!

Right – that’s my excuse for disappearing for so long. But we did get walloped by the hurricane up here – well, technically it was a tropical storm by the time it nailed Long Island. We just got our power back, and I’m good to go for the fall – as soon as I rush out and drag 60 tons of fallen tree branches to the curb. Stay tuned …
